Since this is a "working" task force, for each meeting the
community development staff will provide a summary of the topics for the upcoming
meeting. There is much work for the Task Force; some "homework" will need to be done
by the members. The purpose of the first meeting of the Task Force is to introduce the
members, the topic, and the leader of the study, Kim Way an urban design planner from
Ellerbe-Becket. Steve Sarkozy will provide an overview of the 1998 Citizen Survey; Dennis
Welsch will summarize population and development activity in the community; and Kim
Way will offer a starting definition of "City Center" for the Task Force to build on. There will
be time to discuss upcoming meetings and other business near the end of the meeting.
After each meeting the staff will prepare meeting notes to record the thoughts and direction
of the Task Force.

2.0 MEETING DA TES AND AGENDAS. The first three meetings have been set up for
the Task Force in order to "build some momentum" for future meetings. The first three
meetings are to be held on Thursday evenings (October 8, October 22, and November 19)
beginning at 6:30 pm in the City Council Chambers. The Chair and Vice-Chair will work
with Kim Way and Dennis Welsch to set up meetings and agenda items. Since these are
public meetings, they will be recorded (as per City Policy). On Thursday or Friday before
each meeting you will receive a packet of information pertaining to the topics for the
upcoming meeting. Copies of the agenda and the packet will be available to the public
through the Community Development Department Office.

1
