Teen Dance
-Pe.ge Two
Sec:urltJ:1Contïnued)
Teens are not permitted to come and go from the club to the parking lot area.
During winter months. we have allowed them to go outside upon arrival to lock
any personal belongings in a vehicle, as we can not assume responsibility for lost or
damaged items. We enforte this by informing them of our policy upon admittance
and tnen requesting they immediately go to lock items in their car. Once an
individual leaves the club, he/she would have to re-pay to get back in. This seems
to deter many potential problems.

ParJån.s
We feel Fuddruckers restaurant has ample parking for an event such as this. We
are finding that many teens come in groups. the younger ones (14 &r 15) carpooling
with older teens who have a driver's license. Frenquently, we have parents
dropping off their teens...some are a part of a sleep over or birthday celebration.
Again. the groups we are seeing at these dances do tend to be younger. most between
the ages of 14-11. so they do not drive, therefore forting carpooling or even cab rides
to get to the dance. We have yet to encounter a problem with parking at any of our
locations.

Det~U~ Desaiptian
Fuddrucken has tested this concept at the St. Louis Park. Minnesota location since
December 14. 1990. Response has been very positive; the teens enjoy finally having
a place where they can tlodalize with friends meet teens from other schools and
listen/dance to music. Parents have leant their overwhelming support to the
project because they feel more at ease brin~ng their children to Fuddruckers (a
family restaurant) instead of the more typicaT teen nightclub (a bar that does a teen
nightclub on their "off-nights"). Even our regular Friday &r Saturday ni)tht
customers. who have probably sacrificed the most due to the ceasation of liquor sales
at 8:30. have very positive comments about what we are doing for the kids.

The high-profile approach to security has definitely paid off. We have had some
minorvemal disputes amongst the teens. but we have handled the problems swiftly
and firmly. Our teens know we do not tolerate undesirable behavior. and those that
choose to misbehave will not be permitted to do so without having to suffer the
consequences.

The vast majority of the teens are very well aware of the fact that if r.roblems occur,
the management will stop this program and they will again be wIthout a special
place of their own. Many have seen other teen dances come and go for a variety of
reasons; they have a sense of own en hip and actually will come to us when they see
potential problem situations. A fifteen year old young lady at our Roseville location
said it best when she told our manager, HI really like the way you guys handle this
club. I feel safe here...you take care of us, and I promise you weill take care of you !"
