He said now that the Commission
143 existed he would like the Commission to have an opportunity to get its teeth into this proposal
144
145
146
before the Council acted on it.
Based on his experience with last year's search for a web redesign consultant, he learned how
not to do it. The process last year was set up for failure, beginning with a RFP written by staff
147 for staff, and he would appreciate a new approach and an opportunity to talk the proposal
148 over, and give its advice to the Council and staff. He wanted to clearly state that the City is
149 much better off than a year ago in that it is not trying to do everything as last year's search for a
150
151
152
153
154
155
156
new consultant attempted to do. Also there now seemed more attention towards the role of a
civic engagement module or tool.
City Manager Pat Trudgeon: Suggested it would be totally appropriate for the
Commission to stay and have that discussion now.
COmmiSSiOn2r Th2r2Sa Gard211a: She agreed that the purpose of the first Commissioner
meetings should be to go through the Task Force Report and developing a sense of its own
priorities. She added that the Commission needed to come to its own understanding of what
157 community engagement meant, a really important step, since it was so much broader than just
158 communications issues. She also thought this commission was potentially a real model for
159 other cities. She concluded that it would therefore be good for the Commission not to feel
160 pressure to produce something for the Council, and to feel thoughtful up front.
161
162
163
164
Council member LaLiberte commented that Commissioner Manke seemed very quiet.
Commissioner Michele Manke: Responded that everyone had brought up very good
points and she was in complete agreement but anxious to move forward.
Presentation by Communications Manager Garry Bowman...
Summary of Commission Joint Meeting with the Roseville City Council
pg. 5
