Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />February 19, 2014 <br />Page 4 of 10 <br />Planning of Reception and Council Presentation on March 10: Commissioner Grefenberg <br />expressed disappointment that only one Councilmember attended the reception last year since the <br />City Hall was the selected venue so as to facilitate their attendance. He suggested that a different <br />location be selected for the event, other than the basement of City Hall. <br />Vice Chair Becker recalled that at least two Councilmembers were in attendance last year and <br />suggested the reception remain at City Hall to keep the event simple for the award-winning <br />families attending. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg suggested the Fireside Room or the Rose Room at the Skating Center <br />be chosen for the event. He questioned if the City's reception €��for the winning essayists <br />should be delayed until the statewide awards were selected by the MN League of Cities. He <br />asked when spring break would be held for the Roseville School District in March. <br />Youth Commissioner Sarah Thomas indicated school would be out the week of March 17th <br />Commissioner Grefenberg was in favor of delaying the reception �after March �4� lOth to <br />allow for additional time to organize and plan the event. <br />Commissioner Courneya supported the event being delayed � beyond the 24th of March. She <br />recommended the event remain at City Hall and that it be held prior to the Council meeting for <br />the convenience of the families and Councilmembers attending. <br />Chair Groff questioned if the reception should include a fixed program. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg recommended a short and informal program be incorporated into the <br />reception to ensure that the families of essay winners and Councilmembers in attendance are <br />acknowledged. <br />Commissioner Courneya volunteered to assist staff in planning the reception. In response to <br />Commissioner Grefenberg's urging, she agreed to upgrade last year's menu. <br />Human Rights Commission Participation in the MN League of Human Rights Commissions: <br />Chair Groff explained the Roseville HRC was seeking a volunteer to attend the MN League of <br />Human Rights Commissions Annual Meeting and to serve on its Board of Directors this year. <br />He asked when the League would meet and select its Board. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg reported the g�e� League's Annual Meeting would ��rbe on <br />Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Brooklyn Park City Hall in the Council Chambers at 11:00 <br />a.m. (Editorial Note: the meeting was eventually held at the Richfield City Hall.) He <br />recommended the HRC continue its membership for one year. <br />Chair Groff asked if a representative and an alternate could be selected from the group. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg stated this would be allowed, but clarified that the election of all <br />directors occurred at the upcoming annual meeting. <br />
