Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />March 28, 2014 <br />Page 2 of 6 <br />Commissioner Grefenberg asked if the City Council had been invited to the reception. Ms. <br />Collins commented the entire Council had been invited. <br />Vice Chair Becker asked if the reception would have refreshments. Ms. Collins stated in the past <br />Nelson's has provided bars/cookies. She explained the budget for refreshments had been <br />increased and Nelson's would be able to assist with this. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg recommended Chair Groff speak at the beginning of the reception and <br />provide those in attendance with information on the HRC. <br />Ms. Collins requested the HRC discuss how the presentation to Council would be handled. She <br />reported the top four essays would be read to Council, but an HRC member would need to be <br />attendance to introduce the winners. <br />Chair Grefenberg explained he had a script from last year's presentation to Council that he could <br />provide to Chair Groff. <br />Chair Groff indicated this would be helpful and he would be willing to attend lead the <br />presentation to Council. <br />Naturalization Ceremony <br />Ms. Collins provided the HRC members with a program for the upcoming naturalization <br />ceremony. She encouraged the HRC to consider someone to lead the Pledge of Allegiance for <br />the ceremony, perhaps someone how has went through the naturalization ceremony. <br />Commissioner Brisbois suggested staff contact Kaying Thao to see if she would be willing to <br />lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Ms. Collins indicated she would reach out to Ms. Thao. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg requested the order of events on the program be amended slightly to <br />have Chair Groff speak prior to the mayor, due to the fact this was an event sponsored by the <br />HRC. Ms. Collins commented she would make this change. <br />Chair Groff questioned the length of the ceremony. Ms. Collins estimated the ceremony would <br />take 45 minutes. She requested HRC members arrive early to assist with setup for the event. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg requested the HRC signup sheet be set out at the ceremony. He <br />questioned how many people would be attending the ceremony and how much the Commission <br />had budgeted for refreshments. Ms. Collins anticipated that 100 people would be in attendance. <br />After a brief discussion there was a consensus that prior to the reception which would follow the <br />ceremony, guests would be afforded the opportunity to sign up for the HRC list-serve. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg suggested the HRC direct staff to spend up to $300 for refreshments. <br />He recommended tea be served at the event. <br />
