"

The alignment of this new segment of Lincoln Drive will likely be curved, as illustrated on
Figure 4. A straight road is generally easier to engineer, build, and drive, but the curved
alignment will allow the road to avoid most of the steep slopes next to the ditch, keep the
traffic farther from the neighbors to the west, and allow the College to keep the senior
housing portion of the development on one side of the street. Their program requires
physical connection between all the uses to provide shared food service, staff, etc. A
straight street would not leave enough room on one side of the street for all parts of the
project.

Related to the extension of Lincoln Drive are two other roadway intersections in the
vicinity:

It The intersection of County Road C-2 and Lincoln Drive. This intersection has not been
designed in detail. There are two basic options:,

_ Continue Lincoln straight to the north into the back of the Benjamin's site, with
County Road C-2 connecting in a "T" to iti and

_ Curve Lincoln Drive to the east to join C-2 at Snelling. The new street from the
north serving Benjamin's and the College property would "T" into this roadway.

If other properties in the area remodel or redevelop there may be other possible
intersection designs.

It A potential intersection of Terrace Drive with Snelling Avenue. This new opening onto
Snelling Avenue between the lido Cafe and Midway Ford has been discussed in the
past with State Highway Department (MnDOT) offiåals, who are strongly opposed
to such an intersection so close to County Road C. While this is still an open issue for
discussion, it appears unlikely that this intersection would be built. In any case, it
does not directly affect the development of the College proposal.

~
NORTH
Terrace Drive
& Snelling

o

Ï1
