City ordinances require that fences be no higher than 4 feet <br />in front yards. <br /> <br />2. Cedarholm Golf Course is requesting a fence height variance <br />to construct a 6 foot high mesh fence along Hamline Avenue. <br /> <br />3. The Planning commission unanimously recommended approval of <br />the fence height variance with the following conditions: <br /> <br />a. That right-of-way be dedicated in the future if required <br />for widening of Hamline Avenue. <br /> <br />b. That fence height be gradually increased from 4 feet to <br />6 feet rather than an abrupt change. <br /> <br />The Commission also recommended that the Council examine the <br />need of raising the height of the fence adj acent to the <br />Williamsburg Green Townhomes on the south side of the course. <br /> <br />Alternatives: <br /> <br />1. Deny the variance based on the finding that there is no <br />hardship or practical difficulty present on the site. <br />2. Grant the variance based on the conclusion that there is a <br />hardship or practical difficulty present on the site. <br /> <br />staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />1. It is recommended that the ci ty Council approve Cedarholm <br />Golf Course request for a fence height variance at 2323 N. <br />Hamline Avenue with the condition that additional right-of- <br />way for Hamline Avenue be dedicated if needed in the future <br />and that the fence height be gradually increased from 4 feet <br />to 6 feet rather than an abrupt change. It is further <br />recommended that the Council direct staff to review the need <br />for increasing the fence height adjacent to the Williamsburg <br />Green Townhomes. <br />
