2009 Aldine Street
Roseville, MN 55113
May 20, 1993

Mayor Vern Johnson and members of the Roseville City Council
Roseville City Hall
Roseville, MN 55113

Dear Mayor Johnson and City Council members:

It is with a deep feeling of disappointment that I write this letter. There
is no doubt in my mind that had our petition been circulated beyond the
350 foot area surrounding 1987 Aldine to include all of Woodside, Ridgewood
and Mid Oaks, the percentage of those residents signing would have been
consistent with the 82% who did sign the request that Patricia Curtiss'
special use permit be denied.

It is clear that a significant majority of homeowners in this neighborhood
are opposed to the operation of a customer-based business in their residential
area. There are reasons why we chose to purchase homes in this quiet, secluded
section of Roseville, and we now feel vulnerable and unprotected. My neighbors
expressed disappointment and frustration with what is perceived to be a
disregard for our welfare.

It seems that there will be enough votes for the City Council to approve
the special use permit for Trish Curtiss to operate a beauty shop out of
her home at 1987 Aldine. Mr. Bell has made it clear that limitations and
conditions can be attached to the permit; I am requesting three limitations
in addition to those previously agreed to by Trish.

First: Of great concern is the fear that this permit will "run with the
land" and we will be stuck with a beauty shop on the corner indefinitely.
I implore you to attach a time limit to the permit. Trish Curtiss has
expressed the desire to be given two years to make back her expenses incurred
in purchasing this home and setting up her business shop in the basement.

1. * This is a request that the permit be granted for no longer
than two years and that this time limit be specifically stated
at the time of your vote.

Please turn to page 2.
