CORRECTION TO POSITION PAPER FROM THE
"SA VE BRUCE RUSSELL PARK" COMMITTEE
Revised 6/3/93

A. ABOUT BRUCE RUSSELL PARK

Please note that we made an error when we stated that 47% of Roseville residents live north of
Route 36: the actual number is 57 %. As a result, item 6 on page 2 of the Position Paper
should read as follows. The new calculation shows that the northern residents have 6 times the
park space/per resident as do the southern residents, not the 7 times value we initially calculated.

CORRECTED TEXT:

6. Bruce Russell Park is the only park with its variety of recreational facilities serving the
area defined by Highway 36, Larpenteur, Snelling and Dale. The area south of Highway
36 is already underserv.ed and the loss of Bruce Russell Park would worsen the situation.

City statistics show that 43 % of Roseville residents live south of Highway 36, while 57 %
live north of Highway 36. In sharp contrast only 20% of Roseville park land, excludin~
C~ntral f.ark is south of Highway 36 versus 80% being north of Highway 36. If we
include Central Park, then 11 % of park land is south of Highway 36, while 89 % is north
of 36. The table below summarizes the data. Note that if we express the park land in
terms of the number of people served, the area north of Highway 36 has 6 times the ~
~ park area (1.56 + 0.26 = 6, see table below).

Roseville % Roseville % Park Land % All Park Ratio of Park
Area Population (excluding Land Land/Person
Central Park) (% all park land
+ % population)
South of 361 43% 20% 11% 0.26
North of 36 57% 80% 89% 1.56

1 This is the area including Broce Russell Park.

1

SAVE BRUCE RUSSELL PARK
