The opening <br />was communicated to the schools and other student organizations that may be interested. <br />Chair Groff asked if the essay participants had been notified of the opening. <br />Ms. Collins there is a minimum age and there will be two openings. She asked if the <br />Commission would be interested in extending the deadline to June 11. <br />Commissioner Thao stated students have a lot of things going on and she would suggest waiting <br />to fill the second opening until school starts again in fall. <br />151 Chair Groff stated they would interview the applicant at this time and swear in the new Youth <br />152 Commissioner at the June meeting. He asked who would be on the Committee to interview the <br />153 Youth Commissioner candidates. <br />154 <br />155 <br />156 <br />157 <br />158 <br />159 <br />160 <br />161 <br />162 <br />Vice Chair Becker, Commissioner Bachhuber, Commissioner Casey and Youth Commissioner <br />Dao agreed to be on the Committee to interview the Youth Commissioner candidates. <br />New Business <br />Chair's Report <br />• Review of lawsuit <br />163 Commissioner Singleton stated the lawsuit against the Roseville Police Department is for <br />164 excessive force and false arrest. He clarified the Roseville Human Rights Commission is not the <br />165 official oversight of the Roseville Police Department but if someone's civil or human rights have <br />166 been violated then the Commission has a statutory right to inquire or respond to complaints. The <br />167 Commission meets with the parties involved and makes referrals and recommendations to the <br />168 City Council and the Administration. He reviewed the incident for the Commission. The <br />169 Commission is not taking any position on this incident. He asked if the Commission saw <br />17o anyway in which they could assist. <br />171 <br />172 <br />173 <br />174 <br />175 <br />176 <br />177 <br />178 <br />179 <br />� Vice Chair Becker �opined there would not be a lot of discussions until the legal <br />proceedings are done. He suggested the Commissions role would be more when the situation is <br />resolved and they can wark on how to avoid these situations in the future and how to repair <br />public perception of the Police Department. <br />Chair Groff stated he is concerned as a resident. He asked if there would be a way to talk to the <br />Police Department in regards to their training. <br />
