Box 1511
Eau Claire, Wisconsin 54702

RE: U-FUEL Thermo Tank
FMCAP File #91-024-I

Dear Mr. Webb:

At its January 14, 1992 meeting, the Fire Marshal Code Advisory Panel again considered your request for
approval to use the U-FUEL Thermo Tank for dispensing fuel into motor vehicles at private fleet fueling
locations and airports in the state of Minnesota. After reviewing the information you provided and
considering the recommendations of the Fire Marshal Code Advisory Panel, I have reached the following
decision:

It is the opinion of this office that the U-FUEL Thermo Tank assembly with three (3) inches of
Kaowool® Firemaster Thermal Ceramic Fiber insulation is acceptable in the state of Minnesota for
dispensing of fuel into the tanks of motor vehicles at private fleet fueling locations and into aircraft at
airports, provided the following conditions are met:

I. Such installations must be installed and maintained in conformance with all applicable require-
ments of the 1988 Minnesota Uniform Fire Code (MUFC), with specific attention paid to the
requirements as set forth in Article 79 and the Exception to MUFC(88), Sec. 79.902(e), as
amended by M.R. 7510.3240, subp. 3. However, because of the additional fire protection
provided, the dispensing unit is permitted to be an integral part of the tank assembly

2. The dispensing line must be provided with anti-syphon protection as specified in Item 3 of the
Exception to MUFC(88), Sec. 79.902(e), as amended by M.R. 7510.3240, subp. 3.

rJ \..-(\ 3. Automatic leak detection devices connected to an approved audible and visual alarm must be
provided in the secondary containment basin beneath the dispensing units.

4. Provision must be made either to automatically stop the delivery of fuel into the tank when the
liquid level in the tank reaches 95 percent of capacity or to sound an audible alamt when the liquid
level in the tank reaches 90 percent of capacity.

AN EaUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
