A
---..
I lVI'

Planning Committee Members
2 November 1994
Page 3

. Initial seating on the main floor will be about 875. In future years the balcony can be finished
to seat about 300 more people. Later, two new nurseries in the west comers can be relocated
and walls removed to raise total seating to around 1,300.

. The east wall is designed for future enlargement to build a sacristy, relocate the choir to the
center, install rear projection video screens, or add a stage if future ministry direction warrants
it.

. The north exterior footings and wall are designed to accommodate a future corridor linking a
future education wing to the Worship Center, with additional entrances to a future east parking
area.

Third, the Worship Center is designed to be flexible-to accommodate a range of uses. This one
Worship Center needs to be both intimate for small weddings and funerals, and spacious enough to
be comfortable for 1,300. While most seats are raised for better sight lines, more than 150 seats
and 40% of the chancel area can be reconfigured for special services or unique events. The
Worship Center will have ample natural and artificial lighting, but daylight can be blocked for
religious drama, special events or screen projection.

By adding movable sound absorbing or reflective materials throughout the Worship Center,
musicians can "tune" the acoustical properties of the Worship Center. In addition to the styles of
music represented by religious pipe organ, choir, congregational singing and orchestral
accompaniment, the Worship Center will satisfy a critical ministry and worship requirement to
accommodate alternate worship liturgy demanded by members and guests, such as gospel, jazz,
and Christian rock music styles. This flexibility should also make it an attractive venue for a wide
range of secular community events.

Fourth, the Worship Center is designed to support musical and spoken religious expression. The
enclosed testimony by Acoustic Dimensions explains how the Worship Center acoustics are
integral to Roseville Lutheran Churchts religious expression. Both the sound system and the
relocated organ will be designed to accommodate future expansion. The design contemplates a
catwalk above the main floor for maintenance and dramatic lighting. Provision is made for a stage
extension if Roseville Lutheran Church1s ministry grows to warrant it.

How Roseville Lutheran Church Has Minimized the Height of the Worship Center and its
Impact on the Neighborhood

The principal location sketches and preliminary site plans are summarized later in this submission.
It is HGA's professional opinion that placing the Worship Center at the geographic center of
Roseville Lutheran Church's property, as is proposed, best balances and minimizes any impact from
the building height.

-6-
