ROSEVILLE LUTHERAN CONGREGATION

APPLICATION FOR VARIANCE FROM R-l ZONING
THIRTY~FOOT HEIGHT SPECIFICATION

Roseville Lutheran Church ("RLC') is celebrating its fifty-

first year as a City of Roseville institution. Over the last half

century the congregation completed five building expansions. This

application addresses the sixth expansion, which will accommodate

community-based groups and worshippers through a new Worship
Center, that will be connected to the existing facility by a new
Gathering Space and Main Entrance, plus additional parking. The

Worship Center will be 104 feet square, with a bare balcony to be
furnished with risers and seats in a later Phase II. The Gathering

Space will be approximately 48 feet by 75 feet, open through the

second level, and illuminated with skylights.

RLC started as a "basement" church at the beginning of World

War II, located on the corner of Fernwood and Ryan Avenue. In 1948

the congregation completed its original sanctuary above that

basement.

Seven years later the congregation added a concrete

block education wing. As the congregation expanded, in 1969 it

constructed a second, unattached sanctuary seating 500. In 1981

the two complexes were joined together through a Narthex and

corridor, which included new administrative offices and meeting

rooms.

These five expansions comprise the existing facility,

totaling about 24,000 square feet above ground and 24,000 square

feet of basement space.
