4 "

Steve Sarkozy, City Manager
City of Roseville
2660 Civic Center Drive
Hoseville, Minnesota 55113

~

,
~

Vecember 29, 1994

-

Dear Sirl

I am, with this letter. issuing a formal complaint regarding the
granting of an approximate 11 foot variance in the construction
of a home at 1960 North Dale St., Roseville, Mn. 55113.

Evidently, formal meetings have been held regarding not only the
issuance of a building permit, but also of a variance which
allowed this home to be constructed closer to my property line
than current law permits. I was never informed of any such
meetin~s or granting of variances although this home directly
abuts my property.

Shortly after surveyor's flags appeared, I went to the City Hall
requestin~ information regarding this property at 1960 North Dale
and inquiring as to construction plans for this property. I was
informed that no information refarding this property at 1960 North
Lale had been inputted into the computer system. This means to
me that at that point no formal plans had been approved or dis-
approved. ~ithin 10 days of this visit, clearing of the property
by heavy equipment had begun on 11/17/94. I assumed that the
building construction would proceed in code since I knew nothing
of the granting of any variances. Only after contacting Mike in
Roseville Planning and asking why the house foundation appeared
so close to my property line, did I learn from Mike that a
variance had been granted. He statea that current law requires.
that the rear of the buildin~ be 30 feet from the property line.
This home is approximately 19 feet from my property line.

To any objective observer, it is clear that the current location
of this home significantly reduces the value of my property, and
limits the options I may have for its use in the future.

Since Hoseville was negligent in granting this variance to the
property at 1960 North Lale, and showed no concern whatsoever to
its impact on the adjoininr. property most effected, I am
requesting the following actionl

1. No further variances will be granted to the property at
1960 North Dale regarding construction at the rear of the
home, such as decks, sheds, or attached protuberances,
other than steps and a narrow sidewalk heaaing south
to the driveway.
