Each area has <br />specific and long term affects on the body. In the next few pages <br />there is more information on physical activity and nutrition. <br />Physical activity has much to offer the athlete and non athlete <br />alike. It provides recreation good for the body and soul. One of <br />the best options does not have to cost anything, and it benefits <br />almost everyone. At its best, physical activity is playing with <br />happy consequences for health and well-being. <br />Regular physical activity benefits both physical and psychological <br />health in people of all ages. By improving a person's physical <br />health, regular exercise may help ward off heart disease, some <br />types of cancer, hypertension and stroke, osteoporosis, back <br />injury, and diabetes. It tends to increase a person's feeling of <br />well-being and helps relieve depression, anxiety, and stress. <br />Physical activity can only benefit you so far without the help of <br />proper nutrition. Healthy diets all share two characteristics. they <br />are adequate and balanced. Adequate diets include a wide <br />variety of foods that together provide sufficient levels of calories <br />and essential nutrients. What's sufficient? For calories, it's the <br />number that maintains a healthy body weight. For essential <br />nutrients, sufficiency correspondsto intakes that are in line with <br />recommended intake levels represented by the Recommended <br />Dietary Allowances (RDAs) and Adequate Intakes (Als). Balanced <br />diets provide calories, nutrients, and other components of food in <br />the right proportion, neither too much nor too little. Diets that <br />contain too much sodium or too little fiber, for example, are <br />out of balance.
