Parks and recreation Master Planning <br />The City of Roseville has one of the premier parks and recreation systems in. Minnesota with <br />approximately 679 acres of parks and open space. <br />The City park system consists of 30 parks, in addition. to County parks and open space, :Lake Josephine <br />Park, McCarrons Lake Park and Reservoir Woods Dog Park; along with school facilities complement <br />our City facilities, <br />Much of the parks and recreation system was acquired and constructed in the 1960's, 70's and 80's. <br />Many of these recreation facilities are aging and in need of replacement or updating. New recreation <br />trends and changing demographics have emerged which may require facility or programming changes. <br />The City recognizes the importance of its parks and recreation system to quality of life and is in the <br />process of initiating an effort to update the City Parks and Recreation System Master Plan that was <br />I nitially completed in 1996. There have been several individual Park Master Plans completed in the <br />last several years and several updates to the System Plan, but there is a definite need to look at the <br />entire Parks and Recreation Systern to rake sure we are meeting the needs of the residents and to <br />update all facilities to today's standards. <br />The goals of the Parks and. Recreation System Master Plan <br />• Demonstrate the need for and benefits provided by the Parks and Recreation. Division. <br />Chart the growth, direction, priorities and agenda for the Division through 2025. <br />• Demonstrate the Division's alignment with and contributions to achieving the Parks and <br />Recreation Division Mission and Goals and the Imagine Roseville 2025. <br />• tdentify community needs and desires. <br />o Identify sustainable funding sources. <br />Prioritize park:and recreation system improvements. <br />This Parks and Recreation System Master Plan will serve as a guide to the future and to set the general <br />direction for parks and recreation improvements and functions through 2025. The Plan will include a <br />summary of public input, desires and needs, mission, goals and action plans. This Parks and <br />Recreation System Master Plan should be viewed as a. living document, to be evaluated and refined on <br />a regular basis to keep pace with demographic, recreation, funding and other trends as they evolve. <br />The immediate intent for the document will be to build public momentum leading into the funding and <br />construction of the facilities identified during the Master Planning process. <br />
