2006 Guidant John Rose MN ®VAI Bonding Project
During the 2006 State of Minnesota Legislative session, the John Rose MN OVAL submitted a
request for 5960,000 in bonding funds for facility improvements. Area legislators supported the
request for assistance. Thanks to the tremendous support of the Roseville Mayor, City Council., and
countless supporters and users of the facility, the facility was awarded $ 500,000 in state bonding
fiends for facility improvements.
A series of meetings wei-e held to gather public input to gather a user's perspective on the priority
for the use of these funds. Based on the information gathered, Roseville Skating Center staff
recommended two projects:
1) Improve and add restroom facilities in the Banquet Facility portion of the Roseville Skating
Center. The restrooms serving that Banquet Facility were two single stall unisex restrooms.
With the growing number of banquets, wedding receptions and business training seminars,
and expansion of restroom facilities was necessary to remain competitive in this market. The
expansion replaced an underachieving game room area with a new women's restroom with
four stalls, three sinks and a separate waiting area. One of the previous unisex restrooms was
converted to a men's bathroom with two stalls, three urinals, and two sinks. One of the
existing restrooms was not renovated and is now designated as a family restroom.
2) improve access to the facility's south entrance to snore easily accommodate the large
number of people using the facility during the winter season. The south entrance to the
facility added approximately 1800 square feet including an inviting welcome desk, a full
glass viewing area of the Guidant John Rose MN OVAL, an additional staircase to the
OVAL lobby, a 600 square foot locker room, and a new OVAL skate rental area. The
addition also allowed the installation of a handicap accessible ramp at the south entrance, as
well as push button door openers at each entrance.
Plans were developed in the latter part of 2006. Construction began on the restrooms portion in
March 2007 and was completed in May 2007. The south entrance addition began in May 2007.and
was completed in October 2007. The total cost of the project was $589,000.
