<br />ROSEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF MEETING OF AUGUST 5, 2008 <br />ROSEVILLE CITY HALL ~ 6:30PM <br /> <br /> <br />PRESENT: <br /> Brodt Lenz, Johnson, Kamrath, Kendall, Pederson, Ristow, Stark, Willmus <br />ABSENT: <br /> Hiber, Kruzel (contacted staff prior to meeting) <br />STAFF: <br /> Brokke, Anfang <br /> <br /> INTRODUCTIONS/ROLL CALL/PUBLIC COMMENT <br />1. <br />No public comment <br /> <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES – JUNE 3, 2008 MEETING <br />2. <br />Commission Recommendation:. <br /> Minutes for the June 3, 2008 meeting were approved unanimously <br /> <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES – JULY 1, 2008 MEETING <br />3. <br />Commission Recommendation:. <br /> Minutes for the July 1, 2008 meeting were approved unanimously <br /> <br /> GALE PEDERSON RECOGNITION <br />4. <br />Jeff Johnson reported that the Ramsey County Parks and Recreation Board recently recognized the Central <br />park Foundation as a nominee for the Ramsey County Outstanding Group of the Year and awarded Gale <br />Pederson the Ramsey County parks and Recreation Citizen of the Year Award. Congratulations Gale! <br /> <br /> COMPREHENSIVE PLAN COMMITTEE UPDATE <br />5. <br />Jeff Johnson reported back to the Commission on recent Comp Plan Committee activity. The Parks and <br />Recreation component of the Comp Plan has minimal changes. Much of the detail has been left to future Parks <br />and Recreation Master Planning efforts and the System Plan Updates. The Comp Plan is to be adopted by the <br />Council by the end of the year. <br /> <br /> ARCHERY RANGE PRESENTATION <br />6. <br />Brent Huberty and Todd Anderson, Roseville residents and archery enthusiasts, were present to share <br />information on archery facilities for future consideration in Roseville. <br />Brent talked to the Commission about three Archery Facility scenarios. <br /> <br /> <br />Target Range ~ Lowest cost, smallest land requirements, least maintenance <br /> <br /> <br />Archery Park ~ Accommodates a greater variety of archers, larger land requirements, more costly to <br />build and maintain. <br /> <br /> <br />Archery Trail ~ Focused on the bowhunter, requires 30-40 acres of land and is the most costly to build, <br />maintenance similar to the Archery Park. <br />Todd Anderson was present to support Brent’s presentation and initiative. Todd sees archery as a lifelong <br />activity that involves the family as well as individual participants. <br /> <br />Huberty’s main objective in presenting to the Commission was to make people aware that there is an interest in <br />archery in our community and to learn what the process was for making a request/recommendation for <br />additions to the parks and recreation system. <br /> <br />Discussions followed in regards to the possibility of involving the school district as a partner to maximize use <br />and possibly access land. Brokke and the Commission talked in regards to the timing of this presentation as we <br />begin to assess our community resources and pursue a system-wide Master Planning process. <br /> <br /> PATHWAY COMMITTEE UPDATE <br />7. <br />Sarah Brodt Lenz, the Commission representative to the committee, was not able to attend the recent <br />Community Open House. She did report that committee members are working on ranking the 32 pathway <br />projects. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
