Activities and ele€bents that could be considered during the plaster planning process include camping, a ropes course, cross country ski rental, interpretative exhibits, art fairs, and a marketing campaign to promote the facility. The site has inherent potential for promoting certain educational activities and not others. The educational programs must reflect this potential. Natural Areas Management at HANC The natural areas surrounding the HANG are important for the programs offered to students and the public. Ideally, the wetland and surrounding forest would be in good to excellent condition, offering patrons a chance to experience native plants and ani€pals in their appropriate context. Currently, the wetland has an extensive aniount of the nonnative purple loosestrife and the hydrology of the wetland has been altered, reducing the stability and level of water. The upland forest areas have European buckthorn common., with lesser amounts of the non -natives Siberian eirn and honeysuckle. The Roseville Parks Natural Resources Management Plan was created in 2002 and addresses management activities for both wetland and upland areas, and could be integrated into a Facility Master Plan. Key elements that would be undertaken include, o Wetland Restoration. D Monitor water levels D Determine feasibility of installing a water control structure at the west end of the wetland F7 Treating purple loosestrife in a phases approach D Encouraging expansion of purple loosestrife biocontrol agents o Woodland _a Control of invasive/nonnative trees and shrubs D Overseedinglplanting of native wildflowers and grasses Master Plan Development and Process In order to develop and complete the master plan, several steps will occur. Because of its significance to the City of Roseville and FROIIANC, the Master Plan for the Nature Center should be a team effort including interested citizens, surrounding school teachers, Board members, City and Nature Center staff, and the planning consultant. Public input is key to creating a usable and educational destination for a wide cross section of users. We propose to accomplish this by establishing a Stakeholder Task Force which will meet and provide direction during the course of this process. Task 1: Gather Information o Visit Existing Site - We propose to coordinate a facility tour with City and Nature Center staff and the Stakeholder Task Force to better understand the site and opportunities. • Working Base Map - We will compile available base map information provided by the City and Bonestroo into a working base to develop the master plan alternatives. This base will include previous natural resource mapping, trails, gardens, and other site facilities. o Review Background Material and Existing Education Programs - We will work with the city to identify available data on educational program enrollments, facility usage, community demographics, area schools, and other relevant data.
