Jeff Evenson, with assistance from Jill Anfang, conducted a "design charette," a kind of brainstorming exercise. Committee members present were randomly divided into four groups, with two groups each taking one of two topics. Each group was given an aerial photograph of the HANC grounds, two sheets of overlaid transparent paper, and colored markers. They were instructed to imagine the area now taken by the HANC building, the boardwalk, paths and other grounds, as being either a location for "Arts Experiences" or for "Adventure/Recreation Experiences." We were to "think about how the experiential design impacts the site. No budget constraints — blank checkbook! Site design — anything goes, be creative! Design for an adult experience — how can the site be used for the most rewarding experiences." After a period of brainstorming, each of the four groups presented its ideas, given here in a rather train -of -thought manner as presented by the groups, a combination of Nancy's and Jill's notes. • Adventure/Recreation Experience, Group I o Corporate retreat center with rope course, observation tower with zip line over the marsh o Deck with a gazebo o Conference/banquet rooms (also used for weddings, etc.) o Climbing wall (indoor/outdoor) (flooded in winter for ice rink?) o Interpretive nature signs o Glass -bottom walk over the marsh [like that one over the Grand Canyon] with a heated tunnel o Glass dome over the area — sticks out like the new Guthrie thing o Biking/ jogging trail with crushed limestone Arts Experience, Group 1 o Increase handicapped accessibility a Welcoming pergola — gateway o Outdoor classroom with easels o Jazz concerts along the boardwalk — seating o Audio included on weatherproof interpretive signage o Waders and "Wellies" (Wellington boots) available for borrowing o Ospray nest o Try to grow a patch of wild rice o White lights along paths for evening programs o Wi-fi hot spot o Plantings [missed what was meant by that] o Webcam(s) situated in key location(s) • Adventure/Recreation Experience, Group 2 o Similar to group 1, with rock climbing, rope course o Groomed cross-country ski trails o Information signs
