Outpost Java
Kenn Clausen
Outpost Enterprises LTD.

Site Survey:
A keystone block wall will surround the planting beds and the perimeter of the
building. Inside of this wall will consist of several layers of material. The first layer will
be of a rock mulch to help with proper drainage of the plants on the paved surface. Next
soil will be put into the bed areas and will reach a depth of 10 inches. This will allow for
the plants to root and to help promote growth. A final layer of another mulch around the
base of these plants will be put down. It will help to keep the plants moist during hot
weather.

Plant List:
The shrubs used in this design were chosen for several reasons; color, zone,
drought and heat tolerance, and growth habit. The three shrubs being used are japgarden
dwarf juniper, crimson pygmy barberry, and emerald mound honeysuckle.
The barberrys were chosen for their bright color and heat tolerance. The emerald
mound honeysuckle was chosen to off set the red of the barberry and to vary the height of
the plant material. The japgarden dwarf juniper was placed in the front to add to the
height difference and to add an unchanging color to the area. Area was also left so that
annuals could be planted around the shrubs to add a variety to the colors already present.
These plants should do well if properly watered and cared for. Being that there is
only 10 inches of soil these plants still might have a tendancy to die out due to lack of
room for new root growth and over extreme cold winters. These plants were chosen for
their compact growth which should help them survive.

Placement:
The shrubs were placed so that they would create pattern that could be easily
recognized. The honeysuckles and barberry mimic each other on the cross axis. This is
to create a pattern that will allow the consumer to remember the proper entrance to the
drive-through due to the fact that service will be available on both sides. The placement
also creates a stepping effect, you begin at the juniper and gradually go to the barberry
and then the honeysuckle, bringing you to the serving station.

LAN\)5c:~Qe:
