<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />DATE: 7-22-96 <br /> <br />Department Approval: <br /> <br />Manager Reviewed: <br /> <br />ITEM NO.: I-I <br /> <br />Agenda Section: <br /> <br />Ordinances and Resolutions <br /> <br />Item Description: <br /> <br />An ordinance amending City Code Sections 501.05 and 701.03K relating <br />to exemptions for service animals. <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />Attached is a draft ordinance amending the City Code to comply with the most recent language in <br />the ADA rules and regulations. The ordinance would simply insert the term "service animals" <br />instead of guide dogs in two locations, Section SOland 701. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />It is the city policy to hold two readings on proposed ordinances amending the city code. This <br />hearing is the first reading. After a second reading (August 12, 1996), staff recommends that the <br />City Council approve the ordinance amending the City Code Sections 501.05 and 701.03K <br />relating to exemptions for service animals. <br /> <br />Council Action Requested: <br /> <br />1) Open the public hearing (first reading), receive any public comment offered regarding the <br />proposed ordinance. <br /> <br />2) Motion to continue the hearing to the August 12, 1996 meeting for a second reading. <br /> <br />The Council's formal action to approve (or deny) the attached ordinance amending the City Code <br />Sections 501.05 and 701.03K relating to exemptions for service animals would occur after the <br />second reading. <br /> <br />1 <br />
