Native soils are apparent only in small isolated pockets within the project area. The <br />majority of the project area is classified as Urban Land which includes 90% coverage by buildings and <br />pavement. Native soils under the Urban Land have been greatly altered through excavation and filling <br />accomplished during the original development of the area. Soil borings will be conducted prior to the <br />design of roadway, utility and other site improvements in order to more accurately classify the existing <br />conditions. A soil map ofthe area is presented in Figure 5. <br /> <br />17. Erosion and Sedimentation. Give the acreage to be graded or excavated and the cubic yards of soil <br />to be moved: acres: aporoximately 126: cubic yards: Assumin~ a tvoical cut or fill of approximate Iv <br />2 feet. it is estimated that aooroximatelv 410.000 cubic vards of material will be excavated or used in <br />embankments for roadway construction and site develooment. Actual volume of soil to be moved will <br />be determined as a part of the final design for each se~ent of the develooment area. <br /> <br />Describe any steep slopes or highly erodible soils and identify them on the site map. Describe the <br />erosion and sedimentation measures to be used during and after construction of the project. <br /> <br />Response: The Twin Lakes project area includes generally flat to mildly sloped developed sites. It <br />is anticipated that grading required to redevelop the area will be minor and minimal changes to existing <br />surface slopes will occur. <br /> <br />Sedimentation is a concern that is related primarily to the construction process. The use of appropriate <br />erosion control and turf establishment practices (Best Management Practices) can greatly reduce the <br />amount of construction related sedimentation into the receiving waters. <br /> <br />These measures will be specified in the contract documents and on the design plans, as required. Best <br />Management Practices typically consist of silt fences, hay bales, wood fibre blankets, riprap, sodding, <br />seeding, and mulching. Ungrouted riprap with filter blankets will be placed at storm sewer outlets. <br />All disturbed areas will also be seeded with native vegetation or sodded.
