,Ma,r. ] 8. ] 997 12: 55PM

BRAUN INTERTEC CORP

No. 3987 P 8/13
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
Project No. CMXX-97-0142
March 18, 1997
Page 5

Noise levels at the receptor locations are dominated by traffic on Interstate 35W, Cleveland
Avenue and County Road D. Impacts of traffic noise would be reduced by buildings,
landscaping, or noise barriers that separate the receptors from roadways.

3.5 Noise Monitoring
Noise monitoring was conducted from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on February 4, 1991 and from
6:00 a.m, to 7:00 8.m. on February 6, 1997. The monitoring was conducted 75 feet east of
the centerline of Cleveland Avenue in front of the commercial building at 2958 Cleveland
Avenue and close to the location of the modelled receiver number 1. This location is directly
adjacent to the residential neighborhood to the nom and the measured levels are representative
of this neighborhood.

Table 5 summarizes the results of the noise monitoring study.

Table 5

'::':~';:;'l~.\:\\i.~ :... Includcs both north-bound and soudHIound tmffic.

The monitoring data demonsttates that the traffic on Cleveland A verme was the dominant noise
source during the February 4 afternoon monitoring and the traffic on Interstate 3SW was the
dominant noise source during the February 6 morning monitoring. The louder freeway noise
measured during the morning monitoring could be due to the difference in wind direction
during the two monitoring periods and traffic may have been moving at a greater speed on
35W from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. than it was during the afternoon rush-hour period.

(!he ambient monitoring' data results are sligbtly higher than the assumed background noise
revelS used for modelling as shown in Table 6.
