For <br />example, Costco's office supply section would appeal to law <br />offices and other office-oriented businesses; its institutional <br />food items to restaurants, day-care centers, etc.; and its tires <br />to all types of businesses with vehicles. <br /> <br />Restricted Entry: <br /> <br />Costco operates on a restricted-entry system, whereby the general <br />public is excluded from purchasing by a membership requirement. <br /> <br />a. Wholesale Members legitimate businesses who will <br />resell the purchased items or use the items in their <br />businesses. All wholesale members must have a current <br />business license. Wholesale members pay an annual <br />membership fee and pay the posted wholesale price on <br />all purchases. <br /> <br />b. Group Members these are individuals in certain <br />"public service" employee categories, i. e., employees <br />of a government agency (federal, state, c01.mty, or <br />city), utility, school, college, university, bank, <br />savings and loan, hospital, etc. Group members pay a <br />membership fee to join Costco and pay a 5 percent <br />surcharge above the posted wholesale prices on all <br />purchases. <br />
