enate Majority Leader Roger
Moe has released the names of
the more than 300 donors who
gave about $80,000 to his legal
defense fund, with longtime DFL
donors leading the list.
Minneapolis publisher Vance
Opperman gave $15,000. DFL
gubernatorial candidate and
department-store heir Mark
Dayton and his wife gave $10,000,
according to a list provided to the
Associated Press on Monday by
Minneapolis lawyer Harry Sieben.
, Dayton said he donated to help
out a friend in need.
"I've known Roger for over 20
years," Dayton said. "1 have a
great deal of respect for him.'~
:Moo's fund was set up in 1996
when he and two aides were
accused of campaigning with
state resources. The court cases
against the three were dismissed
and the aides' legal, fees were
paid by the Senate Rules
Committee, which could have paid
Moo's fees.
,Moe, DFL-Erskine, said he
chose to set up the fund rather
thari ask the taxpayers to pick up
the tab through the Senate,
"We played by the existing
rules," he said.
Sieben. a former DFL House
speaker, headed the fund~i'aising
drive. Neither he' nor Opperman
returned, phone messages seeking
comment.
'Last week, after Moe raised
questions about St. Paul's hockey
arena proposal, Senate Minority
Leader Dick Day, R.Owatonna,
, and House Minority Leader Steve
Sviggum, R-Kenyon. called on
Moo to release the contributors
"to his secret legal defense fund."
in any case his time probably has
run out. He already has put
money down on new equipment
for the move, he said, and he
stands'to lose an operation val-
ued at perhaps $250,000.

With some bitterness, he said
his competitors now could have
his business. The owners of Clean
'n' Press a discount cleaner with
a retail ~ut1et in the south section
of Lexingto!l Plaza, had objected
to giving Frishberg a competitive
advantage they could not obtain
themselves. The owner of Gold
Eagle Cleaners in Roseville had
suggested Frishberg buy him out.

noted. "We have to have (stu-
dents) actually using ,this informa-
tion so that they will understand
it and retain it," she said.
Silliman thinks students definite-
ly will benefit from the changes.
But for teachers, she said, ."there
is no doubt they have a major,
major job in front of them."
At this point, so does LaFrenz.
With the school year rapidly
drawing to a close, he noted, "the
, time line is getting shorter."
