~Ir. Dennis Welsch
June 3. 1997
Page 2

2. Please note that the Minnesota Plumbing Code requires that a buried sewer or drain be
located at least 10 feet from a buried water sen'ice line, If this distance cannot be
maintained. please contact the local plumbing regulatory authorit;.' or the MDH Engineering
Unit supervisor. Milton Bellin. at (612) 215-0838.

3. To ensure that the isolation distances will be met. we recommend a well inventory be
performed to determine if there are any existing water supply wells (active or unused.
unsealed) on any of the properties being developed. and especially along the routes of the
new sewer lines. We acknowledge that three well records in the city's files hase been Cound
for wells on these properties. However. any database is incomplete. and should be
supplemented with fieldwork. Particular aaention should be made in the areas shown on air
photos, old maps. etc. where any homesteads. farmsteads. or businesses (which predate cit;
sewer expansion to the area) have been located on these properties. as \\'cll as along proper!;
boundaries where wells on adjacent properties may still exist.

4. We acknowledge the statement that any existing wells on these properties will be seakd
during the property redevelopment. Once a well is sealed by a licensed well contractor in
accordance with requirements of the Well Code. the isolation distance is no longer an issut:.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this EA W. [fyou have questions or need further
information, please contact Betty Wheeler at (612) 215-0807.

Sincerely,

s.-L-

Lin M.
