Discussion ensued as to signage as well as possible alternatives to placement of
the proposed addition. Member Klausing questioned the need for the proposed
signage; Mr. Johnson advised he would like to have a message board on the
sign. Member Wiske advised he would prefer a lower monument sign.

Chair Harms advised the following had voiced their opinion on the application:
Letter from Wayne E. Griesel, 1067 Harriet Lane, Roseville objecting to the
application; a letter from Lawrence J. Mathis, 1081 Harriet Ln, Roseville, no
objection to the application; phone call from Paul Narum, 1056 W. Roselawn,
neutral on the issue; a letter from Cryogenic Laboratories no objection; a letter
from Robert and Martha Houck full support of the application.

Chair Harms asked if there were any public questions or comments.

Wayne Griesel, 1067 Harriet Lane: his key concern was the lack of space for
adequate screening; not adequate area to screen sufficiently.

John Olson, 1944 Lexington Ave.,Cryogenic Laboratories:proposed landscaping
would address concerns and would improve current aesthetics of area;
concerned with curbing on north side of lot as it would be problem for
snowplowing; drainage better now than it was before Townhomes constructed.

There being no further public comments, Chair Harms closed the hearing.

Member Mulder: Dumpsters to be included in recommendation.

Chair Harms: This is a good business - need to keep it. There are problems with
south expansion and loading area. If it~ had been done before Townhomes
existed, would the expansion affect sale of Townhomes? (No) -With right
landscaping/screening, it would be better.

Member Mulder: Change the trees to arbor vitae.

Motion: Member Mulder moved, Member Wilke seconded, to recommend
approval of a variance to reduce the rear yard (east) setback to 3 feet and the
side yard (north) setback to 4.5 feet for the purpose of constructing an addition to
an existing building (within established building lines) at 1930 Lexington Avenue
North, based on the staff findings and recommendations:

Findings:

1. The proposed setback variance for the building addition is in
harmony with the general purpose and intent of the City's existing

2
