Street furniture should also include amenities such as sculptures, fountains, drinking fountains,
bollards, bus shelters, and kiosks - all of which could be built in the public right-of-way. Each ofthese
elements should be reviewed for design consistency with existing elements in the Cornerstone.

Seasonal displays, planter baskets, flags. and signage may be appropriate within Roseville Cornerstone
Districts to advertise special promotions and events, as well as celebrate specific seasons of the year
such as Christmas, Easter, and the Fourth of July. The Cornerstone street lighting system should
constructed in such a manner to allow for public flags or seasonal notices to be hung from each pole.
A cooperative effort between the City, the Chambet: of Commerce, and Special Services Districts for
the Cornerstone may be necessary in order to provide equitable promotion throughout the
Cornerstone.

PLANT MATERIALS IN OR ADJACENT TO STREETSCAPE

Plantings along the City and County right-of-ways should be placed in a formal setting. They should
reinforce the linear nature of the street system and provide a visually common tree canopy for
pedestrian routes. All trees must be hardy, salt tolerant, drought resistant, and provide color in at least
one season of the year. The City has specified that street trees either planted for the first time or
replanted should be a minimum caliper of 3 to 3 1/2 inches B&B or spaded.

Plant materials will be utilized to:

1. Provide screening of undesirable views;

2. Compliment the architectural form of the building;

3. Define walkways, traffic circulation. special use areas, and building entries;

4. Provide a pleasant driving experience;

5. Soften the visual impact oflarge paved areas;

6. Soften the edge between a parking lot or street and the building. and;

7. Mitigate the impacts oflighting or other negative influences.

Landscaped islands in parking lots must be at least 18 feet long and 9 feet wide, and include at least
one ornamental or shade tree. Shrub ground cover is also highly desirable. The interior of all parking
areas must be landscaped.

Streetscape treatment must include deciduous canopy trees in concert with other screening devices
to conceal (or depress) parking and circulation areas from public view as needed.

Planting beds, conifers, and ornamental trees will be used to accent entries and signage.

12
