Allied has supplied building materials for emergency repairs to
storm damaged structures throughout the northern portion of the city.

2.0 BACKGROUND

Allied Building Products Corporation leases a storage and distribution facility at 1920
County Road C (former Steel Siding Supply Building).

In accordance with Section 1007.02(B), of the City Code, "All open storage is prohibited
in light industrial districts. All storage shall be maintained within a closed building." In
July, 1998, it was determined that Allied Building Products was storing merchandise
outside of their building and a letter was forwarded to them (August 24,1998) indicating
they were in violation of the City Code. They were advised that the City would allow them
until November 1, 1998 to remove the outside storage of materials and to comply with the
City Code requirements. On September 25, 1998, the City received a request from Allied
Building Products Corporation to continue the outdoor storage of materials (shingles).

Allied Building Products has indicated that it is not feasible to operate their operation
without permitted outside storage of materials and that they will be vacating their premises
at 1920 County Road C as of March 31,1999.

2.0 STAFF RECOMMENDATION

By motion, approve the request of Allied Building Products Corporation, 1920 County Road
C, to continued outdoor storage of shingles on their site, through March 31, 1999.

Attachments: Request of Allied Building Products Corp.; City Code, Section 1005.01(G); Letter from City
granting limited Emergency Outdoor Storage of Shingles.
Prepared by: Dennis Welsch, 490-2232 Q:\Permits\Complaints\rca allied building systems.doc

Allied Building Products 10/12/98 Page I of I
