I <br /> \in~ <br /> community <br /> eduCation <br /> , . ., . <br /> , calend. <br /> '...."/' ., <br /> ~pJ".OIt <br /> ~Ic.etv <br /> seniors .. <br /> obituaries <br /> <br />~."'.iU.'."..' <br />bri8fs <br />fNf!Iftts/scores <br /> <br />weather" : <br />ai'chiVe <br />contact us <br /> <br />Task force unveils community <br />center designs <br /> <br />By Doug Terfehr <br />Sun Newspapers <br /> <br /> <br />(Published: Tuesday, June 29, \999) IOther Pa pers: ~ <br /> <br />With an estimated $9.5 million sticker price, <br />members of the Multi-Purpose Community Center <br />task force felt the publicly funded facility might be a <br />tough sell in Richfield. <br /> <br />After seeing the concept plans unveilep Thursday, <br />June 24, some task force members are now convinced <br />the proposed community center would pass in a <br />November referendum, <br /> <br />The preliminary designs were meant to give the task <br />force a vision of what a new community center might <br />look like. <br /> <br />If a $9.5 million facility were built, it would cost the <br />owner of a $100,000 house approximately $4 to $6 a <br />month in additional taxes, task force Chairman Rick <br />Jabs said. <br /> <br />If the City Council agrees to put the measure on the <br />ballot, Richfield residents would vote in November to <br />decide the facility's fate. <br /> <br />The task force is considering a plan to build the <br />facility on Veterans Memorial Park land south of the <br />water plant along Portland Avenue, <br /> <br />The site was once a grove of trees which city crews <br />cut down in 1997 to make way for city maintenance <br />facility.
