Sue Phillips, from ELIM, spoke to the committee <br />described types of transitional housing <br />spoke about limitations of screening - facility cannot discriminate <br />residents could have criminal records, battering husbands could be in pursuit <br />. Bill Schatzlein, consultant to church, spoke <br />church needs to work with neighborhood <br />need to achieve consensus of community and parish before ptoceeding <br />. Planning Committee is in the early stages of discussion <br />. Concern was expressed by Neighborhood Group representatives about the status of the Sister DeLourdes <br />. Report was incomplete. Discussion moved on to Item #2 below. <br /> <br />2) Discussion about Sister DeLourdes (S.DeL) status regarding residence at the convent <br />. 3 people had spoken with S.DeL. recently - Karin Mascia (7/12/99), Tom Schraad (7/8/99), and Helen <br />Mader (date unknown) <br />S.DeL. feels pressured and wishes to avoid conftontation. Therefore, she has decided to move ftom <br />the convent. <br />There is some question whether S.DeL. will teach at the school next year. <br />S.DeL. and Sister Anita (S.A) are eager for indications of support and appreciation ftom the <br />community. <br />S.A would like to see a retraction of the inaccurate statement in the church bulletin indicating that <br />she would support any plans for the use of the convent. <br />S.DeL. would choose to stay at the convent if she had the choice and feh no pressure. <br />. Points of group consensus <br />S.DeL. is considered one of the best teachers in the history of the school. The group wishes that she <br />would continue teaching. <br />S.DeL. should be permitted to reside at the convent until she chooses to retire from teaching. This <br />shou1d~be a gesture of respect and appreciation for her years of contribution to the school and <br />parish. <br />Individuals from the neighborhood group should make an effort to express their support and <br />appreciation for S.DeL. and the order. . <br />, There should be a meeting between F.S., S.DeL., and S.A to resolve this issue as soon as possible. <br />.
