,.-,-"..

"

3. Discussion with Father Sochacki (F.S.) (continued)

Can the use of the facility be changed after the THF is started? F.S. stated that the lease and the
special use permit will be written to allow only specific uses for the facility. Any significant
change to the use of the hoose would require a new review process by the City and the church.
If government funding is used for the reconstruction of the house, will repayment of these funds be
required if the house is used for another purpose? F.S. did not know the answer. He thought that
repayment would probably be required
· Discussion of other possible uses for the house
F. S. : next speaker at the Planning Committee meeting will discuss senior housing
thinks there is not government funding available for reconstruction of house for this purpose
not comfortable with using the house as an AIDS hospice
committee will also consider using the house for developmentally-challenged adults and/or
youths
Questions from group to F .S.:
Could the house be used for pre-school or day care? F.S. stated that reconstruction requirements
for these facilities made use of the house prohibitively expensive and complicated The school
proceeded with using the Annex for these purposes instead
Could the house be used to house priests? F.S. stated that it is unsuitable for this purpose. Very
little work has been done on the hoose for 18 years. The appliances are too old

. Other discussiop and comments
F.S. stated that he would like to see the church purchase all the houses on the Skillman side of the
block.
The comment was made that a wide range of needs should be considered before deciding on
homelessness and transitional housing. The availability of government funding for reconstruction
should not be the deciding factor in selecting the use for the house. If government funding is not
available to cover costs, the church should consider seeking funds trom parishioners,
neighborhood residents, and school parents.
F.S. was asked about the inaccurate statement in the church bulletin stating that the neighborhood
group is opposed to considering any change to the use of the convent. F.S. agreed that this
statement was inaccurate and apologized for its inclusion in the bulletin. He did not respond to a
request- that a retraction be printed in the next bulletin. A request was made that he print a
constructive statement about this meeting in the next bulletin.
Concern was expressed that information about these issues and our group should be communicated
to the community of school parents.

4) Next meeting: Thursday, August S
7 P.M.
Roseville Activity Center, 2800 Arona St.

Agenda:
· Complete report on 7/8/99 St. Rose planning committee meeting with Sue Phillips, ELIM
.
