.

There was no change in the size and shape of the parking

area, only re~urfacing thereof, and the lot remains basically as

it has been for over 20 years.

We feel that a variance as to the requirements contained in

paragraph 11 of the application to which this statement is

attached should be granted for the following reasons:
.

I
1. The parking lot as it presently exists has been in

place long before the present ordinance was passed, and we feel

it should be "grandfathered in" where then~ was no change to the

existing condition.

",~" .

2. The area most affected is the North end of the parking

lot (along Eldridge Avenue) which is .our handicapped parking area

and if a variance is not granted we would lose a number of

valuable parking spaces dedicated to this group. We have been

and are regularly increasing the number of handicapped parking

spaces, and there continues to be an increased request and demand

for more spaces to assist the handicapped.

3. The cost to comply with all aspects of the ordinance

could easily amount to $10,000.00 and th0r(~ has been no provision

for this expense in our current budget for the fiscal year ending

June 30/ 1990/ nor in the budget for fiscal 1990-1991.

4. There has been no change in the physical condition of

the property, except to properly maintain it, and accordingly,

the change has had no effect upon public health or safety.

5. Changing the present layout of the parking lot presents

many practical difficulties as it would mean we wou.ld lose a

number of parking spaces and in all probability be requirE!d to
