Make Development Come~t <br /> <br />· Connect rather than separate uses, to allow for functional relationships between <br />them. <br /> <br />· Build mid- to high-densities appropriate to the location, with attention to the <br />design and relationships of structures to each other. <br /> <br />· Provide infill or retrofit land uses that result in more compact development. <br /> <br />Principle 2: Mix Uses J <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />· Include a variety of uses C?nd_.c!~stin~t~~ns -- shopping, work, restaurants, <br />entertainment, civi~ses, cultural activities, parks and other public spaces, and <br />a variety of housing types and costs. <br /> <br />· Connect uses to transit Droviding people with a way to get to jobs, services or <br />recreatidiiOther than driving. <br /> <br />Principle 3: Design for People <br />.,.---- <br />· Locate shops and other uses within walking distance of each other, and within <br />walking distance of transit, where available. <br /> <br />-4 <br /> <br />· Design streets for pedestrians and for cars. Orient businesses and other <br />structures to the street for pedestrian accessibility, and provide convenient <br />parking to the side or rear of buildings.
