l.CA. CITY-WIDE POSSIBLE DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS (1996-2000): 1. Larpentuer Avenue Corridor - A Livable Communities Demonstration Account application was submitted in 1998 for funding in 1999 for the Larpentuer Corridor called Larpentuer Neighborhood Revitalization Project. The project includes the redevelopment of an aging shopping center, providing pathways to and from the neighborhood and through the parking areas to the street, streetscape improvements, landscaping in the parking area, adding infill housing with a child care center, providing space for the Suburban Ramsey Family Collaborative and rerouting transit into the center to better serve the neighborhood. The Metropolitan Council did not fund this project in 1999. 2. The "Cornerstone" Study - The Cornerstone Program was funded in 1996 as part of a Livable Communities Demonstration Account. With projects at 29 possible corners and the Rambler Redesign Program in place it is expected that additional applications may be made for implementation in 2000. 3. I-35W Corridor Joint Project for Contamination Identification Program 4. The 35- W Corridor; Marketing the Economic Engine of Western Ramsey County - Currently the Coalition is funding a transit study and housing study. Results of these studies will be available in 1999. Strategies based upon the finding should generate additional plans for the corridor and funding requests related to the following may be needed. Knit the 7 communities and 3 school districts along the 35 W Corridor together via GIS mapping (and Internet) to illustrate the job and development potential of these 83 square miles. The Corridor as a whole has 55,000 housing units, 4,000 businesses and 85,000 jobs. Create a joint marketing program for this corridor - "Locate your jobs and businesses along the corridor and you'll be with friends sharing a variety of sites and job training, a healthy environment, transit, and proximity Create an employee demographic profile for the corridor Market/promote the corridor, communities and school districts 7. The Lexington Greenway - a master plan for Lexington from Lake Como to Lake Josephine connecting the public and multi-use spaces along a residential corridor. 8. City Center - a mixed-use project of community facilities, housing and retail. Currently a 13 member task force has been studying the needs for City Center which encompasses City Hall at Lexington and County Road C. The committee continues to develop strategies and options for redevelopment of the area over the next 20-40 years. 9. Highway 36 Quality of Life Improvements- landscaped berms and sound barriers. The City received a grant from MnDot. Current improvements are being completed at Rice Street and Highway 36. Additional funds and improvements are anticipated. 10
