The final meeting was held on Thursday, September 23 and featured the Hamline Center Neighborhood. Sixteen participants signed in for this meeting. The visioning exercise results are shown in Table 4. New themes emerged from this meeting that were not prevalent at the other meetings. These residents don't experience many of the typical problems ofliving next to a shopping center district because the Hamline Center area is much less intensely utilized than other shopping center districts. These residents were primarily concerned about the future use of the large number of vacant retail and office spaces in their neighborhood. They gave ideas on what types of uses they would like to see in these vacant spaces in the future. These include senior housing; smaller, less intense, convenience uses; office; and residential. Some also want a law passed limiting the number of years that a building can sit vacant before requiring that it be tom down while another said that any future LRT should run on existing rails. Traffic related problems were the only negative impacts associated with living adjacent to a shopping center district that participants expressed.
