Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />August 20, 2014 <br />Page 6 of 8 <br /> <br />Commissioner Slade asked if the Community Engagement Commission was focusing on seniors. <br /> <br />Vice Chair Becker explained the Community Engagement Commission (CEC) is looking at the <br />different audiences and how to best communicate with them. The CEC is an advisory board and <br />does not do programming. If the HRC wants to communicate with these groups, then the CEC <br />would be able to partner with them. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated the HRC had previously done events on Elder Views and Vulnerable Adults <br />with Money Issues. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Dao stated there had been a dialogue in regards to the different <br />generations. She pointed out Roseville had done work with Shoreview over the last few years <br />and they have a similar senior demographic. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated depression or dementia could be topics for discussion. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Dao asked how the Commission continued to grow their relationship with <br />KOM. She suggested looking at a hosting a Culture Fair. <br /> <br />Chair Groff suggested adding this to the goal list. <br /> <br />Youth Commissioner Dao suggested a follow up to the Immigration Dialogue with more of a <br />focus on how to help this new growing community. <br /> <br />Vice Chair Becker stated the HRC would be looking for input from the City Council regarding <br />future projects. <br /> <br /> <br />b.KOM Invitation to Annual Gala, Oct. 2 <br /> <br />Ms. Collins stated the KOM will be hosting their Annual Gala and they sent an invitation to the <br />HRC. The HRC has about $790 in their budget so they could choose to contribute $500 for a <br />table that seats 8 people. <br /> <br />Chair Groff stated this would be a good way to use the remaining funds. If the funds are not <br />used by the end of the year then they will be lost. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carey stated this would also strengthen the relationship the HRC has with KOM <br /> <br />Chair Graff stated if there were any seats available, the Commission could extend an invitation to <br />the City Council. <br /> <br />Vice Chair Becker moved and Commissioner Bachhuber seconded a motion for the HRC to be a <br />The <br />Toe Baw, bronze, sponsor for $500 for a table of 8 at the KOM Annual Gala on October 2. <br />motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> <br />
