<br />I CITY OF ROSEVILLE <br />2 ORDINANCE NO. <br />3 <br />4 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE X, CHAPTERS 1009 <br />5 AND 1014 OF THE ROSEVILLE CITY CODE CONCERNING <br />6 DEFINITIONS, SIGNS AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES <br />7 <br />8 THE CITY OF ROSEVILLE ORDAINS: <br />9 <br />10 SECTION 1. Chapter 1009.01 of the Roseville City Code is amended to read as <br />11 follows: <br />12 <br />13 1009.01: PERMITS REQUIRED: <br />14 Signs are permitted in all use districts subject to the provisions of this Chapter. No "sign" <br />15 as herein defined shall be erected or attached to a structure, fence or wall without a <br />16 permit from the Chief Code Enforcement Officer. except that one non-commercial sign <br />17 no larger than six square feet and no higher than six feet tall may be displayed on any lot <br />18 in all use districts without obtaining a permit from the Chief Code Enforcement Officer. <br />19 Additionally. where this Chapter allows any commercial sign. a non-commercial sign <br />20 meeting the same size. location. and other standards shall be allowed. Real estate and <br />21 political signs in R-l and R-2 Zoning shall also be exempt from this requirement. <br />22 Applications for sign permits will be processed in accordance with Minnesota Statutes <br />23 Section 15.99 and Section 1014.04 of the City Code. (Ord. 1116, 10-12-92) <br />24 <br />25 SECTION 2. Section 1009.02 of the Roseville City Code is amended by <br />26 modifying and adding the following definitions: <br />27 <br />28 COMMERCIAL SIGNS: Communicative devices that seek to draw attention to or <br />29 promote a commercial, business or economic interest or activity in contrast to non- <br />30 commercial signs that express an opinion or viewpoint of a social or political nature. <br />31 <br />32 FLAGS: A piece of cloth or bunting varying in color and design, used as a symbol, <br />33 standard, emblem or insignia, or containing text other than that associated with a <br />34 commercial. business or economic interest or activity identifying a governmental agency <br />35 or any civic, charitable, religious, institutional, patriotic, corporate, fraternal or similar <br />36 organization, flags or foreign nations having diplomatic relations with the United States <br />37 and any other flag adopted or sanctioned by the legislative body of a governmental <br />38 jurisdiction. (Ord. 1163, 7-24-95) <br />39 <br />40 NON-COMMERCIAL SIGNS: Communicative devices that express an opinion or <br />41 viewpoint of a social or political nature in contrast to commercial signs that seek to draw <br />42 attention to or promote a commercial. business or economic interest or activity. <br />43 <br />44 SIGN: A sign is a name, identification, description, display, illustration or device which <br />45 is affixed to, painted or represented directly or indirectly upon the outside of a building or <br />46 other surface other than a flag as defined in this Chapter and which directs attention to an <br />
