3.0 SURVEY

The survey was conducted on August 24, 2000 by Ms. Jennifer Wolff and Mr. Matt
Schemmel, both of DPRA and licensed asbestos building inspectors. Copies of the
certifications for Ms. Wolff and Mr. Schemmel are attached as Appendix A. Lonnie
Brokke, of the city of Roseville, provided access to the subject property.

3.1

Asbestos

Samples of suspect ACM were collected utilizing random sampling procedures. Similar
systems and materials were grouped into "homogeneous areas of building materials."
Multiple random samples were taken of materials in accordance with the EPA-AHERA
guidelines. The samples taken were designated "A, B, C" etc. Sample locations were
determined using a random sampling process for each homogeneous material and are
shown on Figure 1.

Samples were collected by removing a small representati ve sample of the material and
sealing it in a plastic bag. Water was sprayed on the material to control dust. The bag
was then labeled with the sample number.

, .. . DPRA reviewed a previous asbestos survey report for the subject property and was able
to eliminate the sampling of the tectum ceiling, one type of ceiling tile, one type of floor
tile, and one type of wallboard on the basis of the findings of that report. The 9" by 9"
floor tile in the previous report was found to be ACM. The previous report also
identified pipe fittings and water heater .insulation to be ACM; however, upon inspection,
they have been replaced with fiberglass insulation and are thus non-asbestos containing
material.

i
I
I

DPRA collected 126 samples of suspect asbestos-containing materials. The samples
were submitted to McCall and Spero Environmental, Inc. (MSE) for PLM analysis. The
samples were tested until positive, which indicates that the homogeneous materials were
analyzed until one of the samples was determined to contain asbestos. A total of 105
samples were analyzed. The laboratory results are attached as Appendix B.

I, ~ :

'.'

. ~:>

.'

:1

. .1
. .

"

r.
I

Demolition Asbestos Survey
DPRA Project No. 5781.0002.0001
September 15,2000

)
'I
I

Roseville Activity Center
Roseville, MN

9

I.

I
