Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />September 17, 2014 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 4 of 10 <br />Vice Chair Becker clarified it appeared Shoreview was not looking for a sponsor or for a <br />137 <br />partnership for this event so he would recommend offering to promote the event. <br />138 <br />139 <br />Commissioner Singleton moved, Seconded by Commissioner Bachhuber to endorse and promote <br />140 <br />the Shoreview HRC dialogue about Bullying at Different Generation Levels. <br />141 <br />142 <br />Commissioner Carey asked if there was a cap on the capacity for this event. <br />143 <br />144 <br />Ms. Collins stated she would check into this and let the Commission know. <br />145 <br />146 <br />Vice Chair Becker suggested a friendly amendment to the motion to find out if Shoreview would <br />147 <br />want Roseville to promote the event and if they do then proceed with promoting the event. <br />148 <br />149 <br />Commissioner Singleton accepted the friendly amendment. <br />150 <br />151 <br />Commissioner Bachhuber accepted the friendly amendment. <br />152 <br />153 <br />The motion, as amended, passed <br />Vice Chair Becker call the amended motion to a vote. <br />154 <br />unanimously. <br />155 <br />156 <br />157 <br />Old Business <br />158 <br />159 <br />a.Community-Wide Read <br />160 <br />161 <br />Commissioner Bachhuber stated she had received a message from Jeff Eide from the Roseville <br />162 <br />Library and learned that White Bear Lake Library and New Brighton had tried doing a <br />163 <br />Community-Wide Read and found it unsuccessful. The community may not have been large <br />164 <br />enough to support the program. He would be open to hosting any program the HRC would like <br />165 <br />to hold at the Library and to advertise it but the City-Wide Read is not a good idea at this time. <br />166 <br />Commissioner Dao is supportive of the Community-Wide Read but she recommended the <br />167 <br />Commission not continue working on this program but keep the Library in mind for upcoming <br />168 <br />programs. <br />169 <br />170 <br />Commissioner Singleton asked if there would be something that could be done on a smaller <br />171 <br />scale. Not really involving the whole community at this time but rather a small group. <br />172 <br />173 <br />Commissioner Thao stated the HRC could promote a book but not call it a Citywide project and <br />174 <br />then host a time for people to come together and discuss the book or set chapters of the book <br />175 <br />throughout the year. <br />176 <br />177 <br />Commissioner Bachhuber stated she would not be interested in doing this project unless there <br />178 <br />was more specific direction from the Commission.
