During 2001 the County engaged in an effort to markedly increase participation at HHW sites and so
began a direct mail promotional campaign, targeting especially those communities served by seasonal
collection sites. As can be seen in the following table, this effort was very successful, with 1,993
households visiting the site during 2001, a rate more than double that of previous years.

Site Use - Roseville HHW Collection Site

Year 2001 2000 1999 1998
Participants 1,993 682 1,619 1,795
# of days open 8 8 16 16
A vera2e per day 249 85 101 112

Permit condition #2: Work with City staff to prepare biannual review/monitoring and inspection of
area outside of concrete area.

Following City Council approval of the permit extension in June of 1994, stafffrom'the City of Roseville
.lTIet with Rams~y County st,aff at the Roseville site in September of ) 994 to discuss the permit condition
regarding site review/monitoring and inspection. Staff from
the Environmental Health Section also periodically drive by the site. Also, gates at the site entrance and
exit drives are locked year-round to discourage unauthorized access.

Permit condition #5: Site signage is approved subject to staff approval with notations of a hot line for
citizen call-ins when something unusual occurs.

Signs that include the telephone number for the Environmental Health Section are posted year-round on
the entrance and exit gates at the site.

Following the last day of collection at the site in June of2001, a "Site Closed" sign was also posted near
the site entrance gate for display during the month of July. On the signpost was a brochure dispenser
with flyers promoting the 2001 HHW operating schedule. As stated previously, Ramsey County offers a
year-round HHW collection site located about two miles from the Roseville site, at 5 Empire Drive
(between Rice and Jackson Streets, just north of the State Capitol) in Saint Paul.

Page 2 of2

Saint Paul - Ramsey County Public Health

-

.
