<br />Regional Connections <br />. The Village is located adjacent to the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve. <br /> <br />Other Funding: <br />. A regional parks grant of $2.1 million has been awarded for development and some land <br />acquisition at the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve. <br />. Uno Lakes received a $220,000 LCDA grant in 1997 to hire Calthorpe Associates to complete a <br />town center plan and design standards for The Village. <br /> <br />When in the Ground: <br />. Land acquisition can begin in January 200t. <br />. Retail/office/live-work construction is scheduled to begin in mid-200t. <br />. Townhouse and apartment construction is scheduled to begin in May 2002. <br /> <br />7. Shingle Creek Corridor Improvements, Brooklyn Park <br /> <br />Model: Reclaiming Natural Habitat As New Green Infrastructure <br /> <br />Project in Brief: <br />. Restore Shingle Creek to create a central park amenity, spur other development and ensure <br />long-term viability and stability of surrounding neighborhoods. <br />. The now-hidden creek will be connected visually and physically to adjacent areas and will offer a <br />variety of recreational opportunities. <br />. Improvements to the creek will assist in managing water quality in the area. <br />. The city will also remove an adjacent obsolete shopping center and redevelop the area as The <br />Village, to include new retail/office, and new owner-occupied townhouses fronting on the creek. <br />. Rehabilitation of Parkwood Apartments will occur, and new assisted-living housing wil! be built. <br /> <br />Advisory Committee Comments: <br />. The proposal, as submitted, included the Shingle Creek and Village proposals (total funding <br />request $2 million), and did not rank as highly as proposals 1 thru 5 in this list. However, the <br />Committee singled out the Shingle Creek component as a good model for reclaiming a natural <br />feature. <br /> <br />Recommended Grant Award: <br /> <br /> <br />Use of Funds: <br />. Urban and wetland ponding to develop Shingle Creek Park. <br /> <br />Other Funding: . <br />. The city created a TIF redevelopment district for The Village/Shingle Creek in June 2000. <br />. Brooklyn Park's Economic Development Agency has allocated $2 million for creek improvements <br />in 2001, and addditional design, acquisition and demolition costs totaling over $1.5 million. <br />
