A group of
residents attendeda recent City Council meeting and voiced concern on the current and
increasing deer population in the city.
Parks and Recreation has been working with the Ramsey County Wildlife Management
staff on monitoring the deer population in the city. Included in your packet istracking
information provided by Ramsey County.
Other Cities in Ramsey County as well as the County themselves have allowed controlled
deer hunts on private property and/or public property, either by bow hunters or sharp
shooters. This decision is up to individual Cities. It is not completely clear on any specific
details on process or how or when this might occur.
The administration and the cost of a program would be the responsibility of the City and it
may also require that the City Ordinance would need to be amended.
Although deer is the issue at this time, other wildlife control areas have previously been
requested by resident including goose, turkey and most recently coyotes.
Requested Commission Action:
To receive information regarding deer population in
Roseville and begin discussion.
Volunteer Activities Review
5.
Kelly O’Brien, Volunteer Coordinator and Rick Schultz, Recreation Program Supervisorwill
be at your meeting to provide a review of recent and future volunteer activities.
