The fact that the addition was an
infill situation rather than an appendage on the side of the
building demanded that the new recall the old rather than
make a separate statement. Features such as the new stair
tower interrupting roof lines and the overlapping of the
addition onto the existing sacristy will be obvious clues that
the new portion of the building arrived later.

In plan, each of the major functions in the addition relates
closely to what is occurring in the existing building. The new
dining halls and food staff locker rooms are in the basement
next to food services. The book store is also in the basement
next to the tunnel which connects t.he two major academic'
buildings on campus. The Blue Room expansion, grand foyer,
coat room and gallery are on the first floor. This level with
its new entrance off the parking lot is seen as the center of
campus circulation. From here, the public and students can
be directed to KTIS, Blue Room, chapel, and other academic
functions in the building. The second floor serves exclusively
classroom functions, keeping the heavy pedestrian traffic to
these spaces confined to one floor of the addition. KTIS and
the library expansion are on third floor. Both need isolation
from the public and nOise, so are good companions on the top
floor. The new elevator serves all levels of the addition and
in conjunction' with the handicapped lift in the vestibule
allows wheelchairs access to the building via the new
entrance.

2.
