Metcalfe Federal Building
77 W. Jackson Blvd. Chicago, Illinois

I would like to call your attention to the second time offering of a course designed
for local governments, developers, and consultants that are interested in brownfield
redevelopment. This course, which is offered by the Great Lakes Center for Occupational
& Environmental Safety & Health at the University of Illinois' School of Public Health, has
been designed specifically to meet the needs of communities that are looking to spur
redevelopment of older contaminated sites,

The course mixes outside experts with HUD and U.S.EPA personnel, to cover the
"nuts and bolts" of the brownfield redevelopment process. It devotes a great deal of class
time to case studies, where teams of students get to visit actual sites and go through the
redevelopment process through fictional role playing.

This course is recommended for all communities who are seriously considering
brownfield redevelopment, but who don't actually have a lot of experience to get started.
This course will give them an idea of what to expect with the tools, know-how, and contacts
to get the process moving.

If you would like more information about the course, including the agenda, please
see HUD's web site at http://www.hud.gov/local/chi/chienv2.html. Registration for the
course should be made through the University of Illinois' Great Lakes Center at
(312) 996-6904. Registration cost is $550 and does not include airfare or lodging.
Questions on class content should be directed to Eugene Goldfarb at (312) 353-1696
x2727 of HUD-Chicago's environmental staff, or Brooke Furio at (312) 353-2513 of the
U.S.EPA's Brownfield staff.

-.....~
