Utilizing Insurance Service Office (ISO) requirements
f~r a project as proposed. the amount of vater needed
for rire protect1o~ is as follows~

y
s,
~
;.
'"
r,
1
~

. If the buildings are not protected with an approved
a~tomatic sprinkler system. a water flov of 3,500
gallons per minute (GPM) would be cequired fro~ the
hydrants.

If the buildings are sprlnklered. 1,750 GPM vill be
required.

The vater main on the norths1de of County Road tiC"
has an anticipated statjc pressure of 60 poun4s per
square inch. Using nationally recognized standards,
it has been calculated that in order to provide ade-
ql~te fire protection. the buildings need to be auto-
matic sprinklered ~nd an 811 water main be brought
into the complex. If the buildings are not sprinkler-
ed, a deAdend 8" main ""ill !!Q!. supply the required
3.500 GPM.

RECOMMENDATION 12.

Provide ~utomatic sprinkler protection for th~ build-
ing vith an 8" vater main serving the building. If
the developer chooses not to sprinkler. the 8" water
cain is reco=ended to be loopt>d back to a rellable
main at time of construction. the proposal to tie
in vh~n the City ~xtends the water main through the
park Is dangerous as there 1S 8 severe lack of water
until the loop is completa. A fire during thl9 in-
tertm periQd may have dip8strous results.
