Community Engagement Commission Minutes <br />January 15, 2015 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 15 of 18 <br /> <br /> 630 <br />There was no other new business. 631 <br /> 632 <br /> 633 <br />Staff Report 634 <br /> 635 <br />Staff Liaison Bowman stated the Council was starting off slowly this New Year so that its 636 <br />agenda was fairly light looking into the near future. Chair Grefenberg asked staff to give 637 <br />Commissioners some lead time on the civic engagement module recommendation they were 638 <br />would soon be making to the Council, 639 <br /> 640 <br /> 641 <br />Future Agenda Items 642 <br /> 643 <br />There were no future agenda items for the Commission’s review other than what had been 644 <br />previously noted. 645 <br /> 646 <br /> 647 <br />Commission Communications, Reports, and Announcements 648 <br /> 649 <br />Chair Grefenberg stated City commission opening would be announced at the end of this month. 650 <br />Staff Liaison Bowman stated told the Commission that City commission openings this was were 651 <br />already announced last week. 652 <br /> 653 <br />Chair Grefenberg noted the Ethics Commission, Finance Commission, Human Rights 654 <br />Commission, Park and Recreation Commission, and Planning Commissions all had openings, 655 <br />with a deadline of March 2 to submit their applications. 656 <br /> 657 <br />Chair Grefenberg also noted on Martin Luther King Day there was Kick Buckthorn to the Curb 658 <br />event from 10-2 at Acorn Park and they were looking for volunteers. 659 <br /> 660 <br /> 661 <br />Commission-Initiated Items for Future Meetings 662 <br /> 663 <br />Chair Grefenberg stated they would take a look at the Task Force volunteers and those items not 664 <br />covered tonight. 665 <br /> 666 <br />Chair Grefenberg noted the Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights wanted to meet with the 667 <br />Commission to discuss how to better include the incorporation of immigrants in local civic 668 <br />engagement. They have A chapter in their recent statewide report explored on how that could 669 <br />occur. He asked if there was any objection to inviting them to give a presentation to the 670 <br />commissioners Commission. There was no objection. 671 <br /> 672 <br />Chair Grefenberg stated the Minnesota League of Cities was having a Cities conference on 673 <br />Community Engagement at the end of this month on Friday and Saturday. He stated indicated 674 <br />this was an indication demonstrated that community engagement was something that was getting 675 <br />increased attention from public officials. He reported that he had asked the Mayor to come back 676
