Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />February 18, 2015 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 8 of 9 <br />Chair Groff did not have any additional updates. <br />317 <br />318 <br />319 <br />Youth Commissioner Report <br />320 <br />321 <br />a.Summer Youth Book Read <br />322 <br />323 <br />Commissioner Bachhuber stated Commissioner Carey and her had met with Youth <br />324 <br />Commissioner Cederberg. The Committee determined they would like to set a launch date in <br />325 <br />thth <br />June and target 10 and 11 grade students. She had contacted the Teen Librarian and he would <br />326 <br />be willing to provide space for the discussions. His recommendation was the discussions be for <br />327 <br />teens only. Youth Commissioner Cederberg would be talking with teachers to see if they would <br />328 <br />be interested in facilitating discussions, offering questions for discussion, or advice on which <br />329 <br />books to choose. They Library has also offered to publicize the event.They are expecting to <br />330 <br />have a book title identified in March. <br />331 <br />332 <br />Youth Commissioner Thao stated she had contacted a couple of teachers and she would continue <br />333 <br />to follow up with them. <br />334 <br />335 <br />336 <br />Staff Report <br />337 <br />338 <br />a.Finance Update and Discussion <br />339 <br />340 <br />Ms. Collins reviewed the budget and she would update this with the Essay Contest award <br />341 <br />information once the budget has been determined. She explained there is a small cost included <br />342 <br />for the civility training to cover refreshments if the Commission decides to provide this. <br />343 <br />344 <br />Commissioner Becker suggested including the increase budget amount and the expenditure for <br />345 <br />the preparation of minutes in order to show a complete picture. <br />346 <br />347 <br />Commissioner Slade explained the Mental Health Forum was budgeted for $300 but at this time <br />348 <br />the expenditures are $100. She stated she would provide a draft letter for Ms. Collins to use to <br />349 <br />request donations of treats and beverages for this event. <br />350 <br />351 <br />b.Other Items <br />352 <br />353 <br />Chair Groff stated he had gone to the Community Engagement Commission meeting and they <br />354 <br />had a representative from the Immigrant Experience.
