Human Rights Commission Minutes
February 18, 2015 – Draft Minutes
47
City Manager Trudgeon provided an update on a kick-off event “Roseville: Becoming a
48
Dementia Aware Community”. This event will be held on April 23 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at City
49
Hall. After the kick-off event there will be a series of lectures and events throughout the
50
community in late April and May. The kick-off event will be recorded.
51
52
Commissioner Becker asked if there was a schedule for the subsequent events.
53
54
City Manager Trudgeon approximate dates are April 28, May 5, May 12, and May 19 for the
55
community events and April 30, May 7, May 14, and May 21 for the caregiver events.
56
57
58
Old Business
59
60
a.Civility Training Update
61
62
Commissioner Carey stated the City Council approved the necessary funding for the event. The
63
date that works for the Institute and the Library is May 30 but she is not able to attend this date.
64
If this date does not work then the event would need to be pushed into September.
65
66
Vice Chair Thao stated she would not be able to attend if the event were in May. She would
67
prefer to see the event held in September to ensure Commissioner Carey can attend and the
68
Commission has adequate time to plan for the event and promote it.
69
70
Ms. Collins stated the Commission and City have several events in March, April, and June but
71
there is nothing scheduled in the fall. This would be a good event after a break in August.
72
73
Commissioner Becker suggested scheduling the event in mid-September after the Labor Day
74
holiday and the start of school.
75
76
It was the consensus of the Commission to direct Commissioner Carey to work with the Institute
77
and the Library to schedule the Civility Training event in September.
78
79
b.Update on Mental Health Forum
80
81
Commissioner Slade stated the Commission would be hosting the “Community Conversations
82
Information about Mental Illness” on March 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Roseville Skating
83
Center Fireside Room. She provided a flyer put together by the National Alliance on Mental
84
Illness (NAMI) and suggested having the Human Rights Commission recognized on the flyer
85
that would be used to promote the event. She stated Mindy Greyling had a conflict for this
86
particular event and she would not be able to facilitate the metal illness basics portion of the
87
discussion. She stated she would do this portion and facilitate a discussion.
88
89
Ms. Collins stated NAMI would be promoting the event and requesting RSVPs through Event
90
Right. She asked if the Commissioners would need to RSVP as well.
91
